ITU is the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs. It allocates global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develops the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strives to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.
With the help of their global membership, ITU brings the benefits of modern communication technologies to people everywhere in an efficient, safe, easy and affordable manner. In addition to the 193 Member States, ITU membership includes ICT regulators, many leading academic institutions and approximately 700 technology companies.
ITU is at the very heart of the ICT sector, brokering agreements on technologies, services, and the allocation of global resources like radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbital positions, to create a seamless global communications system that is robust, reliable, and constantly evolving.
