The Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Acting Minister of Health, today opened the 13th edition of Vision-X Dubai at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, launching three days of the region's largest optical and ophthalmic exhibition.
Over 120 exhibitors and 3,900 industry professionals from more than 63 countries are expected to attend the event, providing optimum opportunities to network, conduct business, keep abreast of key optometry and ophthalmic trends, and attend workshops.
“Vision-X Dubai has established itself across the region as a significant platform for enabling ophthalmic business and knowledge sharing, and to showcase cutting edge trends and technologies,” said Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of Vision-X Dubai. “Dubai is a leading healthcare hub and the eye care industry is a vital part of the region, from both a health and lifestyle point of view,” she added.
Segmented into two areas, Vision Opticare and Vision Lifestyle, Vision-X Dubai incorporates a full spectrum of eye care expertise and developments. Vision Opticare showcases the latest medical ophthalmic, optometric and technical equipment and machinery, while Vision Lifestyle focuses on innovations and trends in eyewear fashion and accessories.
Several product launches are set to take place during Vision-X which will showcase the latest brands, trends and fashion in eyewear. These include Eschenback’s TITANflex which was the only eyewear brand to win the 2012 iF Material Award, Eyres Optics’ eye protectors – polarised sunglasses and goggles to help avoid eye injuries during extreme sports, IMAGO’s latest collection of metal frames handmade in Italy called OGAMI; and Kefan’s Nikon Progressive Lens called Presio Balance XS. Also, Barakat Optical will be showcasing the WECO E3 edging machine for the first time in the Middle East. It is the first machine of its kind that contains grooving, drilling, blocking and tracing of lenses, all at the same time.
Platinum Sponsor Egma Optical Supplies will also conduct daily raffle draws, celebrating Porsche Design’s 40th Anniversary and presenting the new Mercedes-Benz Eyewear collection from Rodenstock. For the anniversary, Porsche Design Eyewear is presenting the legendary P’8478 in the limited special edition “40Y”.
Expanding geographical reach
Over its thirteen-year history, the exhibition has expanded its geographical reach to include exhibitors from Belgium, China, Ireland, Portugal and South Korea, showcasing the latest in luxury eyewear, frames, lenses, and diagnostic equipment. Country pavilions feature a host of first time participations such as Ca Va Se Voir and Creation Poncet from France, as well as Swiss Eye International GmbH and Block Optical from Germany. Among the leading companies returning this year include Centrostyle from Italy, Essilor from France, Kefan Optic (Nikon) from Kuwait, Satisloh from Germany and many more. Industry leaders Amico, Bakarat Optical, Charmant Group, Egma Optical Supplies and Johnson & Johnson, among several others, have also confirmed their participation at this year’s Vision-X Dubai 2012.
Exclusive buyer programme
For the first time Vision-X Dubai is launching an exclusive buyer programme known as EYE-CONNECT. This programme gives top buyers the opportunity to meet leading international and regional manufacturers, suppliers and distributors showcasing the latest trends in fashion eye wear and medical eye care products. Vision-X Dubai will be hosting key decision makers from the region’s optical industry from Germany, Bahrain, India, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. The programme is an effective channel for buyers looking to expand business in the Middle East through increased and direct access to the right exhibitors.
EXPERT SESSIONS AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING
DED tackling counterfeit goods
The Department of Economic Development in Dubai will also provide insights on protecting the consumer rights and eliminating the malpractice of establishments that trade counterfeited and fake products. This enforces the department’s aim to create a business friendly environment to all investors in the UAE. Sessions will be held on 8 and 9 May.
Understanding medical condition Uveitis in the region
Also featured alongside Vision-X Dubai is the Middle East Africa Vitreo-Retinal Society’s (MEAVRS) Clinical Uveitis Course, which will be held on 10 May. The course will provide a comprehensive educational programme for ophthalmologists, optometrists and eye care providers from around the world to discuss critical information on the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis, an eye condition prevalent in this region. It is organised with the support of the Emirates Medical Association Ophthalmic Society and all attending conference delegates will receive a certificate of continuing medical education.
Featured speakers include Prof Fernando Arevalo, Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and Prof Hassan El Dhibi, Chief of the Uveitis Division at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia.
Workshops hones business skills for healthcare professionals
Workshops on Business Skills in Optic Retail Industry are also being conducted for visitors by Dr Aisha Natto, CEO of Eye to Eye Optics. These free thought-provoking, professional sessions on 8 and 9 May will allow visitors to acquire effective skills in selling and dealing with customers in the retail business environment, specific to the optical industry.
