The fourth annual Dubai Sports World - the emirate’s largest indoor summer sports venue - will feature a crowd-pleasing combination of proven popular and exciting new sport offerings when the 11-week, family-friendly activation returns to Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from June 11 to August 31, 2014.
Spanning more than 20,000m² of indoor space, Dubai Sports World will occupy Sheikh Saeed Halls 1 and 2 and the multi-purpose Trade Centre Arena. The expansive venue will feature eight, pro-standard pitches for five or seven-a-side football and rugby, six badminton courts, one volleyball court, three basketball courts, one tennis court, a skate-boarding and BMX park, a state-of-the-art gym, a 600-metre running track and tiered seating for over 1,200 spectators. A soaring climbing wall is also being introduced this year, while a cricket pitch is back following popular demand. In addition, the free-to-enter Entertainment Zone will feature 12 table tennis tables, four pool tables and two foosball tables.
Having attracted more than 100,000 sports enthusiasts in 2013, a series of engaging ‘Sporting Weekends’ concepts - featuring local, regional and international sports celebrities – will add further diversity to this year’s energetic calendar of tournaments, open days, clinics and training sessions.
“Dubai Sports World gives both residents and visitors the chance to participate in their favourite sports and maintain an active lifestyle in a specially-designed indoor environment,” said Ahmed Alkhaja, Senior Vice President – Venues, DWTC. “Over the years, we’ve seen a significant uptake in the interest among participating academies, sports clubs, schools and companies who join us indoors to beat the outdoor temperatures. We look forward to welcoming back people of all ages to enjoy old favourites and try new sports at this year’s expanded event.”
Dubai Sports World is organised in association with Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Festivals & Retail Establishment, and supported by Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
