CABSAT is the single most important platform for the digital broadcast and satellite industries in the MEASA region. It is the largest technology event of its kind, bringing together digital content creators, software developers, tech companies, entertainment brands and technology enthusiasts.
As always, last year’s 23rd edition of the CABSAT conference and exhibition - with more than 900 exhibitors and 20,000 attendees - saw ground-breaking technology releases and industry trends that had broadcasting professionals in the communications and satellites industry abuzz with excitement.
CABSAT 2017 provided visitors with an opportunity to experience LeoSat’s Low Earth Orbits (LEO) Ka-band spectrum technology. It is also here that Mohammad Naser Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, shared plans to launch the first UAE designed Earth-observational Satellite - KhalifaSat - scheduled to launch in 2018.
Specifically referencing the UAE’s up-and-coming film industry, international brands such as Canon, Sony and Panasonic chose to use their presence at CABSAT to showcase products targeted to independent filmmakers. Devices included Sony Professional’s new Sony PXW-Z450 (a world-first 4K shoulder-mount XDCAM, designed for reels of a studio-stabilised quality) and Canon’s flagship camera, the EOS C700.
